Learn an extended range of counselling skills with Counselling Skills II
During this course you will gain a further knowledge of skills used when counselling.
This course follows directly after our Counselling Skills I course and extends on topics and procedures such as micro skills and mental health problems such as depression, grief and anger. You will also encounter telephone and internet counselling skills and learn how and when to use particular skills for special cases.
Throughout this course you will refine your counselling skills and better help your clients.
There are 8 lessons and assessments to complete in this course:
Lesson 1: The Counselling Session – how micro-skills come together
Lesson 2: Focus on the Present – present experiences; feedback; transference; projection; resistance
Lesson 3: Telephone Counselling – non-visual contact; preparation; initial contact; use of micro-skills; overall process; debriefing; types of problem callers
Lesson 4: Dealing with Crises – defining crisis; types of crisis; dangers of crisis; counsellor’s responses and intervention; post-traumatic stress
Lesson 5: Problem-Solving Techniques I: Aggression – expressing anger; encouraging change; role-play; externalising anger
Lesson 6: Problem-Solving Techniques II: Depression – blocked anger; referral practice; chronic depression; setting goals; promoting action
Lesson 7: Problem-Solving Techniques III: Grief and Loss – loss of relationships; children and grief; stages of grief
Lesson 8: Problem-Solving Techniques IV: Suicide – ethics; reasons for suicide; perceived risk; counselling strategies; alternative approach.
There are no general entry requirements for this course, just your drive, motivation, and passion for the industry. You may enrol into this course at any time and begin studying shortly after enrolment.
Duration study load
We allow up to 12 months to complete this course, although your actual completion time may be less depending on prior experience and the time you commit to your study. Approx 100 hours.
