Course Overview
Child and Adolescent Mental Health
BPS214
Learn about child and adolescent mental health.
Course Overview
During this course you will learn the signs, symptoms and treatments that will assist in helping children and adolescents with mental health issues. Mental health is an alarming issue that is particularly prominent for people living in developed areas. It is difficult to estimate the number of children and adolescents who are affected by mental health conditions as some are more underlying than others. The statistics for Australia in 2007 have estimated that 14% of children between 4 and 16 years and 45% of people over 16 years are affected by mental health at some point. Therefore it is important for people to be informed and educated about mental illness especially in children and adolescence because it isn’t something that always stands out like a sore thumb. Sometimes the worse cases are the hardest to recognise.
This course provides an extensive overview on the nature and scope of mental health and the issues amongst children and adolescents. You will become familiar with signs and symptoms of some common mental health conditions, their possible causes and learn the correct treatment.
